Nobody But You by Jill Shalvis

Cedar Ridge #3

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ I wish I had been able to just sit down and devour this book in one sitting! Sadly, I was super busy and had to just sneak bits here and there.. but I was longing to get back to it every chance I got!  I loved the sparks between Jacob and Sophie right from their first meet.

I was unsure how I would like Jacob's story, as he is only mentioned in the other two books. You don't get to meet him, which is often what draws me to the other books in the series; the fact that I love the secondary characters so much. Jacob, honestly didn't sound all that appealing.. His twin brother hadn't heard from him for a long time. (He just leaves and joins the military after an argument.) Yes, he's paid his share of the costs to care for their mother, but that long with no contact because of a somewhat childish fight.. seems selfish. So it was surprising to me, how fast I ended up liking him.

The way he falls, and falls hard for Sophie is awesome. I laughed out loud more than once and Sophie, wow, was she ever a fantastic multitasker! She was strong and self-sufficient. I enjoyed her rebukes to Jacob and the fact that she couldn't resist him.

I was a teeny bit disappointed that it looks like maybe Kenna won't get her own book...  but there were some great little parts in this story with her, so I guess that will have to do for now! This book fully kept me wanting to read and it's fair to say it was my favourite of the series! If you haven't visited Cedar Ridge... You should!

 Here's the blurb:

After an overseas mission goes wrong, Army Special Forces officer Jacob Kincaid knows where he must go to make things right: back home to the tiny town of Cedar Ridge, Colorado. All he needs to scrub away his painful past is fresh mountain air, a lakeside cabin, and quiet solitude. But what he discovers is a gorgeous woman living on a boat at his dock.

Sophie Marren has nowhere else to go. She’s broke, intermittently seasick, and fighting a serious attraction to the brooding, dishy, I’m-too-sexy-for-myself guy who’s now claiming her dock. Something about Jacob’s dark intensity makes her want to tease—and tempt—him beyond measure. Neither one wants to give any ground . . . until they realize the only true home they have is with each other.

Until There Was You by Kristan Higgins (Audio Edition)

Narrated by Xe Sands

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥  This was a sweet story, though similar to the last one I listened to - where the heroine has loved a man since they were teenagers. This time however it was the hero of the story she loved AND we got to see some of the story from his pov! Which I always enjoy.

I liked Posey and Liam together. Both were independent and happy with themselves. I found it funny how over protective Liam was towards his daughter, always saying he knew what the teenage boys were thinking having been one himself. I liked how he put his daughter first, even though it made him seem cold towards Posey sometimes.

Posey was caring and sweet, this however, seemed to let her get walked on by people at times. She was brave and honest with her feelings though, as well as true to herself which I give her props for. That takes guts to put it all out there, considering she's been hurt by him before. - That statement in the summary gave me pause. I hate when people go back to the people that hurt them.. or in this case, never stop loving that person in spite of being hurt. Again, I had this book stored away for later reading.. but it's Kristan Higgins.. She's great! and she made this scenario seem okay in the end for me, as I kinda hoped she would.

The narrated of course was awesome. I have to say, she is one of my favourites! Sarcastic, and witty, she has a sexy male voice she uses for the hero's which is better than some of the male narrators I have heard. She is one of the main reasons I have moved up these last couple books from the depths of my tbr pile.

The Blurb:

Posey Osterhagen can't complain. She owns a successful architectural salvaging company, she's surrounded by her lovable, if off-center, family and she has a boyfriend—sort of. Still, something's missing. Something tall, brooding and criminally good-looking—something like Liam Murphy.

When Posey was sixteen, the bad boy of Bellsford, New Hampshire, broke her heart. But now he's back, sending Posey's traitorous schoolgirl heart into overdrive once again. She should be giving him a wide berth, but it seems fate has other ideas….

Fools Rush In by Kristan Higgins (Audio Edition)

Narrated by Xe Sands

♥ ♥ ♥ 1/2 I have had this book in my tbr pile for a while. Some of the reviews were not that favourable, so it kept getting pushed down the line. However, I finally decided to listen to it, largely because I love listening to Xe Sands (the narrator) and also because Kristan Higgins hasn’t steered me wrong so far.

The characters: Millie, she seemed a bit immature to me for a good chunk of this story. The whole “stalking a crush” is very much a high school girl thing and just seemed a bit pathetic for a smart woman, on the other hand I can see how she’d perhaps kept that crush alive in her mind for so long, that she just wanted it to happen….albeit desperately. She had some good growth in the book, which I liked to see and in the end she was a decent character.

Joe.. oy! That guy was too much. Some of the crap he pulled mad me just plain angry.. Then for Millie to just accept it! UGH!!!  Whatever.. His immaturity matched Millie’s during that part of the book so,  I guess I can’t complain too much. He had his sweet guy moments but he definitely wasn’t a normal Higgins hero that I would fall in love with.

Enter in Sam. Here’s the hero.. He’s a good guy, sweet, funny, caring. All the good stuff. I enjoyed his straightforwardness and conversations with Millie. The naturalness between these two is one of the reasons I kept reading… (the other pretty much was the narrator, I truly love her voice). Sam's teenage son Danny was also a great addition, and I really enjoyed the bond between him and Millie.

Now.. for the subplot… I will admit that I did get weirded out by the whole “ex-brother-in-law turned lover”, for the sole reason that he had a kid that, if this turned to marriage, would have to switch from her being Aunt Millie and now think of her as his step-mother..  But I must say.. Kristan Higgins even wrote this well. When it came right down to this part of the book.. I was fine with it.

In the end, this wasn’t a favourite of mine by this author but I am glad I read it.

Here's the blurb:

Rewarding job as a local doctor on Cape Cod? Check. Cute cottage of her very own? Check. Adorable puppy suitable for walks past attractive locals? Check! All she needs is for golden boy and former crush Joe Carpenter to notice her, and Millie will be set. But perfection isn't as easy as it looks--especially when Sam Nickerson, a local policeman, is so distracting. Sure, he needs a friend after being dumped by Millie's fortune-hunting sister, but does she really need to enjoy his company that much? He is definitely" not" part of her master plan. But maybe it's time for Millie to start a new list...

My Kind of Wonderful by Jill Shalvis

Cedar Ridge #2

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ 1/2 I enjoyed Hudson's story much more than I had anticipated. This is the second in the Cedar Ridge Series and personally, I found it better than the first. Bailey was a girl with a new lease on life and her attitude reflected that well. She was fun and sweet. Hudson was an independent guy who had so much on his plate he couldn't fit on one more.. but even so, he had Bailey on his mind right from the first time he saw her, and I loved it!

Neither of them wanted to accept a long term commitment, and I could understand this, but sometimes it felt like they were just saying the words because that's what they were used to or that's what they thought the other person expected. That said, I really liked how Shalvis ended the book. It wasn't what I expected and that was a nice surprise.

The Kincaids are indeed a crazy bunch, but also a strongly bonded family. I love the way the brothers interact with each other and I am really looking forward to Kenna’s story. At least I am hoping she will get one!

I am about to read Jacob's story. Should be interesting!

Here's the Blurb:

Bailey Moore has an agenda: skiing in the Rockies, exploring castles in Europe, ballroom dancing in Argentina. Now that she has a second lease on life, she's determined not to miss a thing. What she doesn't realize is that item #1 comes with a six-foot-one ski god hot enough to melt a polar ice cap. She doesn't want to miss out on him either, but Hudson Kincaid isn't the type of guy to love and let go. And as gorgeous as Cedar Ridge is, she's not planning to stick around.

As head of ski patrol at his family's resort, Hud thinks he's seen it all. But never has he run into someone like Bailey. She might look delicate, but her attitude is all firecracker. And her infectious joy touches something deep within him that he's been missing far too long. Now he'll just have to convince Bailey to take a chance on her biggest adventure yet . . . something rare and all kinds of wonderful.

Awakened by Elisabeth Naughton (Eternal Guardians #8)

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ Man I've missed these Guardians! This book was great! Both leads were fantastic, their chemistry was flowing between them right from their first meeting. The Hero was sweet and honest, the Heroine was feisty and strong. I loved how "drawn" to each other they were

One of my favourite elements of these books is the "soul mate curse." I love the idea of soul mates, and these Argonauts are the best kind! It was great to revisit all of them, and, as this book takes place about 25 years after the last one, we are also getting glimpses of some of their children, and Max! Wow! He's gotten all manly! I remember reading about him in the second book and thinking that he had all the potential to be an awesome guardian.. here's hoping he gets a story!

Also, and I may be wrong on this.. but I believe Naughton has introduced the very first female Argonaut... which is SUPER COOL! Makes me wonder if the soul mate curse will work the same way on her.. I don't really see why it wouldn't.. but perhaps she's exempt due to only the males being cursed?? Guess I will have to wait and see on that!

OOh and I can't forget about Zagerus! He is such a treat! I sorta wished I had reread the last two books just before I had read this one, as at points I had kinda forgotten a few things.. like how Zagerus ends up where he is.. but this didn't detract from the story. If you have not read these books, I would suggest you start at the beginning because, for one: they are all great, and two: they are somewhat intertwined.  Either way, as I read the last few sentences of this book, all I could think was how much I am already anticipating the next one!!!

Well Done Ms. Naughton!!!

Check out this fantastic excerpt from DISTANT THUNDER!

It had only been three days since the Great Founders’ Day Disaster, but it felt like a month. For the first twenty-four hours after Dakota’s revelation, the town had been mostly shell-shocked. Then the story started spreading through social media, and last night after Marcus dropped Brittany off after dinner at Murphy’s, she discovered that someone posted the Founders’ Day Disaster on YouTube. The media had descended on Storm like locusts this morning, and her father, whom she’d only seen in passing since Founders’ Day, had adopted a shelter-in-place stance. Brittany had given him suggestions on where he could shelter in places that were much, much hotter than Texas, and then she’d run out the front door toward her car, only to be swarmed by reporters. “Ms. Rush, is it true that your best friend is pregnant with your father’s baby?” “Ms. Rush, how do you think this scandal will affect your father’s reelection campaign?” “Ms. Rush, did you know about the affairs your father was having with your friends?” Ugh. She and her mother shouldn’t have left Francine’s cabin so soon, and Jeffry certainly should have remained with one of his buddies. But when Marylee snapped her fingers and went into crisis mode, everyone came running and fell in line like good little minions. “This blows,” Jeffry said, looking up from where he was lounging on the couch with his iPad. “What blows?” She sank onto the love seat across from her brother. “The game you’re playing? Or the fact that we’re trapped like animals? Or maybe the fact that our father is a lying, cheating bastard who slept with our friends? Or the fact that my best friend is going to give birth to our little brother or sister?” Yep, she might be a little bitter. And it was ex-best friend. He tucked his feet under him on the couch and sighed. “Yeah.” “I can’t believe Mom thinks we need to be here for him—” She broke off as their mother, Payton, came around the corner with a tray of finger sandwiches and a pitcher of lemonade. They hadn’t spoken much about any of this, and Brittany wasn’t sure how to go about it. As far as she could tell, her mother hadn’t so much as shed a tear over the fact that her husband had knocked up a girl young enough to be his daughter and had probably slept with a dozen more. “I brought you something to eat,” Payton said, and if she’d heard Brittany talking, she was choosing to ignore it. “Your father and grandmother are finished with their meeting with Mr. Stayton, and they’re on their way up to talk to you.” “This should be good.” Jeffry reached for a sandwich as their mother put them on the coffee table. “I was wondering how long it would be before we got the circle-the-wagons lecture. Five bucks says he tries to convince us that everything Dakota said was a lie.” “I know you two are angry and confused and you have a lot of questions,” Payton said as she took a seat next to Brittany, looking all prim and proper in a subdued green dress and gray scarf. “But we’ll get through this. I promise.”   stunning sensual young couple in love posing in summer field, happy lifestyle concept     Author pic - Larissa IoneAbout Larissa Ione: Larissa Ione is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author.
