Its Release Day for AFTER THE STORM by Lexi Blake! Midseason Episode 1 in the Rising Storm Series

Rising Storm - Header banner

Welcome to Storm, Texas, where passion runs hot, desire runs deep, and secrets have the power to destroy...

Nestled among rolling hills and painted with vibrant wildflowers, the bucolic town of Storm, Texas, seems like nothing short of perfection.

But there are secrets beneath the facade. Dark secrets. Powerful secrets. The kind that can destroy lives and tear families apart. The kind that can cut through a town like a tempest, leaving jealousy and destruction in its wake, along with shattered hopes and broken dreams. All it takes is one little thing to shatter that polish.

Reading like an on-going drama in the tradition of classic day and night-time soap operas like Dallas, Dynasty, and All My Children, Rising Storm is full of scandal, deceit, romance, passion, and secrets.

With 1001 Dark Nights as the “producer,” Julie Kenner and Dee Davis use a television model with each week building on the last to create a storyline that fulfills the promise of a drama-filled soap opera. Joining Kenner and Davis in the “writer’s room” for the Midseason Episodes of this serial opera are bestselling authors Lexi Blake and Larissa Ione who have brought their vision of Storm to life.

So get ready. The storm is coming.

Check out this fantastic excerpt from AFTER THE STORM!

“I didn’t know I was pregnant until I woke up from the accident.” Ginny’s voice was an impassioned whisper. “I found out two things that changed my life in that moment. I found out that my best friend was gone and that I was pregnant. And I prayed so hard that I hadn’t lost all of Jacob forever.” Forever. That’s what she was looking at. She was looking at an entire lifetime of being a mother without a son. She loved her daughters dearly, but she would mourn Jacob forever. And this selfish girl was equating her pain as though they were the same. As though one night of spreading her legs gave her the right to mourn him. “I think you woke up and realized you had two options. Take care of that baby alone or worm your way into Jacob’s family and his money.” “I never cared about the money.” Celeste wasn’t going to listen to that tripe. “Of course you did. Not enough to keep your legs closed. You say you loved Jacob but how long did you wait before you hopped into bed with that Murphy boy? Did you even break it off with my brother-in-law? How many men do you need on your string?” “I’ve never slept with Logan, but I will admit that I’m in love with him. I love him in a way I never loved Jacob. Jacob was my best friend, but I know now that he wasn’t my soul mate. I pray with everything I am that this is his child, that we receive a miracle because I don’t want him to be lost forever, but I won’t hide what I feel for Logan and I won’t pretend it’s nasty. Not even to placate you, Celeste. I want to make things right between us and that means apologizing to you. Celeste, I’m so sorry I hurt you. I never meant to. I should have been braver. I should have been stronger, but I woke up and the world had crashed around me and I wanted the love you could give me. That all of you could give me. I’m sorry that it brought you so much pain.” Something about the way she was standing there enraged Celeste. How could she stand there looking so innocent? How could she say exactly the right things to garner empathy? Celeste didn’t want to empathize. She wanted to fight and tear up things and destroy the world around her because it seemed so damn intent on destroying her. She wanted to burn it all down. She didn’t feel her hand snap back, didn’t quite understand what she was doing. The world seemed tinged in red at the corners as though rage now filtered her vision. And it slowed everything down. In horror she realized she was going to strike Ginny Moreno. Her hand was going to bring justice her words never could. And then it slapped against flesh. A strong hand circled her wrist and Travis stared down at her like he had no idea who she was.   copyright szefei     Author pic- Lexi BlakeAbout Lexi Blake: New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Lexi Blake lives in North Texas with her husband and three kids. Rising Storm - Midseason 2: Distant Thunder by Larissa Ione

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ This book takes place 3 days after the storm. Marylee is on a mission to clear Sebastian’s name. I feel Payton is finally coming to terms with how crappy her husband treats her.. and even though it's unfortunate, I am glad - because I like her and she deserves to be treated better!

Dakota, man I wish she could see what everyone else sees.. Bringing her father home is not going to be a good decision.

Marcus, he seems like he's honestly tried to turn himself around, he’s enjoying life for once and now he's going to get screwed over (my best guess anyway.)

I still have hope for Ginny and Logan. He seems like a really good guy and she a girl who made a foolish but life changing mistake.

I am looking forward to reading about a few characters I have seen in awhile. There is going to be some fantastic drama to come!!

I can't wait for season 2, I can already tell it will be a good one!

Rising Storm - Midseason 1: After the Storm by Lexi Blake

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ This book starts out very lovey dovey, towards Ginny “I forgive you sister” … “we were wrong to judge you” etc.. personally at this point I was thinking.. wow.. she's getting off easy. Then I find out all the drama of the last book took place... yesterday! This book picks up from the last one on the day after, and they are already forgiving and forgetting?? Hmmm.... seems a bit quick for me.

Dakota, is still Dakota, and here is where the rest of the town is not as forgiving. Which seems more realistic to me. I liked the flow of this book and the story progressed well. Ginny is starting to grow as a person, accept her faults, and is working towards fixing them.  It took me a bit to remember who was who, as there are a lot of characters, but once it came back.. It all came back!  I am looking forward to the next episode.

This is a “soap-opera style" series, so it’s best to start with the first book. Check out their website for information on the other books in the series.

Welcome To Forever by Annie Rains

Hero's Welcome #1

♥ ♥ ♥  This is the debut novel from this author and I thought the story had a good plot. Rains filled the story with some large issues to deal with: Single parenting, bullying, a child with cerebral palsy, grief for a dead fiancĂ©..not to mention the few other difficulties she threw in for plot twists..  at times it felt like perhaps, if there were less things to deal with, the major issues could have been addressed more fully.  Though as in life sometimes it all happens at once.

Micah was a decent character, he’s a good dad to Ben and works hard to make their life the best he can give them. I found Kat likeable… at times however, she was a bit wishy-washy and for a smart woman, sometimes a bit clueless.

The two had pretty good chemistry, though their feelings for each other and their situations seemed to run hot and cold from one minute to the next.

The secondary characters were interesting. If there is a follow up book, I may check it out.

Here's the blurb:

If you love Kristan Higgins, Susan Mallery, or Jill Shalvis, you won’t want to miss the Hero’s Welcome military romance series! Welcome to Forever introduces a small coastal town where America’s best and brightest risk everything for love.

In Seaside, North Carolina, there are two kinds of people: Marines, and kids of Marines. Then there’s Kat Chandler. Recently hired as the principal of Seaside Elementary, Kat makes it her mission to turn the school into a place of peace and calm. That’s not going to be easy with hard-liner parents like Micah Peterson storming in, telling her how to do her job—and then kissing her with those gorgeous lips of his and turning her brain into mush.

As a Marine Sergeant and a single dad, Micah Peterson has just two priorities: doing his job better than anyone else, and getting the absolute best for his son, Ben. But when he meets Ben’s beautiful new principal, a different yearning shifts into focus. He wants her, sure, but he’s also moved by the connection Kat forges with her students. So after learning that she refuses to date Marines, Micah sets two more objectives: convincing Kat to give him a chance . . . and then holding on to her forever.

"Full of heart and emotion, don't miss this sparkling debut!" NYT bestselling author, Lori Wilde.

My One and Only by Kristan Higgins (Audio Edition)

Narrated by Xe Sands

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ Let me start by saying, as always, Xe Sands’ narration was fantastic! I truly enjoyed listening to her. Now on to the book itself.  Kristan Higgins is a wonderful writer, which is why I am having a hard time rating this book. Did I enjoy it- yes. Did it keep me listening way into the night ...yes   Did I love the characters.. yes.  Am I left with conflicting feeling.. Sadly yes. So, here’s what I thought:

  • The Chemistry between Nick and Harper was heartfelt.
  • Harper’s past making her the woman she is was understandable.
  • Nick’s Sarcasm and straightforward attitude.
  • Even though some situations felt a bit forced it wasn’t unbelievable.
  • That even being as jaded as Harper was… I can’t believe the things she did sometimes.
  • That Nick still trusts Harper after her repeated behaviour.
  • Harper was a bit too immature still, and made ridiculous choices.
  • That Harper could still act the way she did towards Nick, even knowing she would hurt him.
  • I can’t see that they actually get their happily ever after, I just see repeating behaviour.

To be honest, I have trouble with most second chance books, because I find it hard to watch people go back to someone that hurt or was unfaithful to them. That said, I have read some great second chance books lately that do not deal with either of those situations.

This story’s plot is a kind of a misunderstanding and I guess, immaturity or lack of listening to your partner - at the same time.. As I think back over the story, Higgins did a wonderful job showing the young couples mistakes, however later.. When you think they both should have matured… perhaps only one of them did.  Which is why it leaves me conflicted.

As I said above, this book kept me engaged and I didn’t want to stop listening as I truly did enjoy the characters.  Would I recommend this story? Yes... With the disclaimer that it left me wondering if they would truly keep their happy ending.

Here's the blurb:

Just when she thought she had life and love all figured out…

Divorce attorney Harper James can’t catch a break. Bad enough that she runs into her ex-hubby, Nick, at her sister’s destination wedding, but now, by a cruel twist of fate, she’s being forced to make a cross-country road trip with him. And her almost-fiancĂ© back at home is not likely to be sympathetic.

Harper can’t help that Nick has come blazing back into her life in all of his frustratingly appealing, gorgeous architect glory. But in Nick’s eyes, Harper’s always been the one. If they can only get it right this time, forever might be waiting—just around the bend.

Off The Hook by Laura Drewry

Fishing for Trouble #1

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ 1/2 I have enjoyed every book I've read by Laura Drewry, and this one is no different! Liam and Kate were a cute couple. Liam seemed like he had matured a bit since he and Kate had parted in Vegas. He had his mind set on his goal and worked hard to get what he wanted. Kate was a forgiving and trusting girl, but stood up for what she believed in. I kinda wish I got a few more glimpses of their time in Vegas together.. as I am sure that "crazy attraction" would have only added to their chemistry.

I loved seeing the little extra details of the characters, - the songs that Liam whistles/sings, the books Jessie reads etc. it just made me feel closer to them. I had some good chuckles, and some great *sigh worthy* moments. The baseball practice was funny and the bit at the very end was awesome!

The O’Donnell boys are a rowdy bunch when together and Jessie is a wonderful character as well… I secretly hope she gets together with Finn or Ro.. but at the same time, if she met someone outside the O’Donnells … that would hopefully just result in one more book for me to read! This is the first book in what seems to be a promising series! I can't wait for the rest!

Here's the Blurb:

Welcome to The Buoys, a West Coast haven where love comes in with the tide. Perfect for readers of Jill Shalvis and Susan Mallery, the Fishing for Trouble series features three unforgettable brothers—each of whom is a great catch.

Major league pitcher Liam O'Donnell knows his best days are probably behind him, but that doesn't mean he's ready to retire and become a fishing guide. Still, after all the time he's spent chasing his dreams, he owes it to his brothers to pull his weight around the lodge. The Buoys is their father's legacy, and they can't let some developer take it from them. The one snag Liam isn't counting on is a blast from the past: his ex-wife.

The moment Kate Hadley steps out of the seaplane, she knows this assignment is going to be trickier than she thought. She has to persuade the owners to sell—and one of them is Liam O'Donnell. Ten years ago, she made the biggest mistake of her life when she married Liam during a fling in Vegas. Now he's her only lifeline in the middle of nowhere. Kate's trying to keep things cool, but Liam just reminds her of the scorching few nights they spent together—and tempts her to make new memories that are just as steamy as the old.
